Book Review: Eat and Run: My Unlikely Journey to Ultramarathon Greatness by Scott Jurek

If you are a fan of ultrarunning, or even follow the sport a little bit, you would’ve heard of Scott Jurek, the darling and champion of this sport. Eat and Run is the autobiography of Scott Jurek, and a real treat for his fans.

In Eat and Run, Scott tells his readers how he started his career and how he got at the top. Scott is a vegan and being an athlete with a plant-based diet is not easy, as Scott points out in his book. From his Midwestern childhood hunting, fishing, and cooking for his meat-and-potatoes family to his slow transition to ultrarunning and veganism. Scott’s story shows the power of an iron will and blows apart the stereotypes of what athletes should eat to fuel optimal performance. Filled with tales of competitions every fan wants to hear, and advice and tips from the champion, this book is a great read for every fan of ultrarunning. An added bonus is the recipes included in the book—some of which are Scott’s very own recipes. It’s also a nice way to expand your food horizons.

Readers have absolutely loved this book. Scott’s athleticism and veganism are things that many have admired. The best thing about this book, according to readers, is the athlete’s dedication to his chosen sport and reading about his exploits through the hundred races.
